CardTarget is proud to be the only live and active trading market for eTopps cards and shares of memorabilia. This document will give you the information you need to get started buying and selling on the CardTarget market today!

If you are not buying and selling eTopps cards, you can skip over any paragraph below that starts with eTopps. Because all transactions for shares occur on CardTarget, there is no need to register an eBay, eTopps, or any other accounts if you are just interested in buying and selling in our shares system.

Orders
Just like the real stock market, when you buy and sell on the CardTarget Market you do so using buy and sell "limit" orders. This means that you are entering into a contract to buy or sell a certain item or number of items at a certain price. When another user's order is matched with your order at the same price, the orders are matched and the trade is executed by CardTarget in an automated fashion.

eTopps Transfers
This section of the document is only relevent to eTopps transfers. Because your eTopps cards are kept in your eTopps portfolio on the etopps.com website, CardTarget must move the cards from the seller's portfolio to the buyer's portfolio. This can happen in two different ways. We first attempt to move the cards via the eTopps trade post. This is by far the easiest and most cost efficient way to transfer cards. If we are successful, the trades are reported to both users and the transaction is complete. This method may fail depending on the holdings of the participants in the transaction. If this is the case, we then proceed to place the card up for a private auction on eBay.com. This is the standard way that eTopps cards were originally meant to be transferred.

The auction is listed from the sellers account using the eBay ID "cardtarget" and it is automatically bid upon using the buyers ID which they have preregistered with CardTarget. The auction is automatically closed immediately after this bid is placed. As a result of 24 hour auctions, the cards will be available for claim into the buyers eTopps account approximately 25 hours after payment is received for the item. This date is subject to change as a result of eBay, eTopps, or CardTarget problems.

eTopps Buying
Buying eTopps cards for great prices has never been easier. No more bidding and hoping, no more begging for deals, just buy it when the price is right! Users looking to participate as buyers in the CardTarget market must register their eBay ID and password with CardTarget on our secure server. This allows us to place bids immediately when a purchase occurs and to completely automate the purchasing process. You can even use an eBay ID specifically set up for CardTarget purchases if you are concerned about the privacy of your main eBay account. Buy orders can be placed at specific prices and are good from 1 day to 30 days and can easily be modified to be cancelled at any point prior to execution.

eTopps Selling
Selling your eTopps cards immediately at market value with low fees is now possible! Users looking to participate as eTopps sellers in the CardTarget Market must register their eBay ID and password and their eTopps username and password with CardTarget through our secure server. Selling fees start at 6% of the sales price and go as low as 3.5% of the sale price if you are a member of our advanced tier system. Sellers are also responsible for paying the 25 cent ebay listing fee for each private auction. The maximum number of cards you may have up for sale at one time is dependent upon the number of cards available in your portfolio. Card availability is accessed before each order is entered into the system and upon the matching of each order. Because sellers must pay 30 cents for each auction launched through the Market, sellers have the ability to limit the quantity of cards available in one sale. For example, you may place an order to sell 6 cards, but a buyer must purchase at least 3 of them (Minimum Quantity). This limits the eBay fees paid by the seller, but also resticts the pool of potential buyers.

Buy Now
Buyers looking to purchase a card or a lot of cards immediately may check the "Buy Now" section to see what quantity is available and what the prices are. While it may appear as if you are purchasing a 10 card lot with a single payment, they may indeed be 10 distinct transactions with 10 different sellers. This type of purchase would have been difficult in the past, but now it is simple and fully transparent to the purchaser due to the automated nature of the CardTarget Market.

Sell Now
Sellers looking to move a quantity of cards in a single transaction may like to use the "Sell Now" feature. The seller will see the prices that they would be able to obtain for a number of different quantities of cards in a simple interface.

Account Funding
In order to facilitate a real-time market, buyers in the CardTarget Market are encouraged to pre-fund their accounts so that funds are available for purchase as soon as an order is matched. Accounts may be funded via PayPal balance transfers or credit card payments. Credit card payments are subject to a $20 minimum and may be subject to withdrawal penalties if not used in full in the CardTarget Market.

Order Matching
The CardTarget Market order matching system always attempts to get the best price available. New orders are always matched against orders already in the "book". The match price is always the price of the order that was placed first.

For example, if you enter a buy order with a price of $16 and there is a sell order in the book at $15 it will match at $15 since that is the best price available for purchase. If you enter a sell order at $10 and there is a buy order in the book at $20 it will match at $20 because that is the best price available.

Account Security
CardTarget employs a fully secure server to facilitate all market transactions. eBay and eTopps passwords are treated with utmost security and are stored encrypted at all times. Should you at any time feel that your eBay or eTopps accounts may have been compromised you are asked to contact eBay security, eTopps customer service, and the CardTarget staff at staff@cardtarget.com.

Terms and Conditions
All users of the CardTarget Market are subject to the CardTarget Market User Agreement which must be agreed to before use of the CardTarget Market.

CardTarget Market Frequenty Asked Questions

  1. Why should I buy and sell on the CardTarget Market rather than the standard way on eBay? There are many reasons why the CardTarget Market produces a better result than ebay. First, you get to set your own prices. No more hoping that a card sells for a high price or setting a price and having to relist when you get no bids. If you are a buyer, no more getting outbid by one penny or waiting for the card to be transferred. There is no fee to create a sell order in the CardTarget Market, so your listings can go on virtually forever. The selling fees for the CardTarget Market are on par with the eBay fee structure, and are significantly less than the total eBay/Paypal fee when they are combined on a single auction. You also get the peace of mind as a buyer and a seller that the transactions will take place safely and securely. You do not need to email and track down non-paying bidders, you won't need to leave feedback or worry about all of the other pitfalls inherent to the eBay system. The CardTarget Market is completely automated to make each transaction as smooth as possible. Just list it and forget it.

  2. What happens if a seller does not have the card in their portfolio after I buy it?
CardTarget verifies the quantity available for sale when the order is entered and again when the order is matched. On the odd chance that the card is placed up for auction by the seller before the CardTarget Market places the card up for private auction, the transaction will be cancelled and the payment will be returned to the buyers account.

  3. How do I edit my open orders?
The easiest way to edit your open order is to go to the card details page for the card whose order you would like to edit. There will be a small pencil icon next to your order which, when clicked, will allow you to edit your order.

  4. Is it "ethical" to have a buy price and a sell price on the same item?
Absolutely! In fact, it's highly encouraged. This is what professional money managers do all the time in the real world stock market. Buying low and selling high is the key to making money in any true market. If you can sell at a high price and buy at a lower price on a consistant basis on the CardTarget Market, maybe you should move to "real" money management.
